A global map with saved places and lists, at maps.projecthollow.com. The map follows your Hollow theme, and its distance units, start location and label language are in Settings under Maps. Drag, pinch or use the arrow keys to move it, plus and minus to zoom, and Shift with the arrow keys to rotate. The address bar always holds a link to what you are looking at, so you can bookmark or share a view.
Search covers cities, towns, villages and suburbs worldwide, and every road, settlement and postcode in the UK, with nearer matches first. It has no businesses or house numbers, so for a café or a station use In this area, which lists the points of interest the map is showing. Recent searches are kept on your device only.
Open a search result, a point of interest or a saved place to see its coordinates in decimal and in degrees, minutes and seconds, and the nearest named place. Copy a Hollow Maps link to it or send it in Yap. Press and hold, or right-click, anywhere to drop a pin.
Save a place and it goes into the space you have open: your personal places, or a shared space you created or were invited to. Give each place an icon and a note and file it into lists, each with its own colour. Mark a place with the Home icon to have the map open there. Everyone in a shared space sees the same places and lists as they change. The space owner invites people by their Hollow username from the People tab, and anyone can leave a space they were invited to.
Right-click a list to rename it, change its colour, delete it (its places stay saved), export it as GeoJSON or GPX, or import a GeoJSON, GPX or KML file into it. Points, lines and areas import as places, up to 2,000 at a time; anything that cannot become a place is skipped and counted.
Contacts with an address and Calendar events in the next 30 days with a location appear on the map; turn either off under On the map. A UK address is placed at its postcode, and any other address at its town until you pin the exact spot, which is saved on the contact. Calendar events are shown, never changed. A location shared in Yap opens in Hollow Maps, and Send in Yap opens Yap ready to send the place to the conversation you pick.
The Hollow AI panel can find places, describe the area the map is showing, move the map to what it finds, tell you what you have saved and save a new place once you approve it. It searches Hollow's own place index, not the web.
Your device location is only used to centre the map when you ask, and it is never saved to your account. The map remembers where you last looked on this device only. There is no location history: a place is saved only when you save it. A Hollow Maps link keeps the view after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server. When you ask Hollow AI about the area, it is given the centre of the map rounded to about a kilometre.
